Scholastic Art & Writing Awards - Alliance for Young Artists & Writers

Educator Residencies

Educators with their own art or writing practice are invited to apply for summer retreat opportunities.

Writers Retreat for Educators

Educator–writers of students who participate in the 2025 Scholastic Art & Writing Awards are invited to apply to the Writers Retreat for Educators, in collaboration with the Kenyon Review. Twelve selected educator-writers will join other participants for an online, six-day summer workshop series to hone their writing and teaching practices.

Made possible by the Dr. Ernest B. Fleishman Educators’ Fund, the Maurice R. Robinson Fund, and Dav and Sayuri Pilkey, each selected educator will also be provided with a $200 stipend.

Applications open in February—check our blog for more information and sign up for our newsletter.

About the Dr. Ernest B. Fleishman Educators’ Fund

The Dr. Ernest B. Fleishman Educators’ Fund allows the Alliance to provide recognition, professional-development opportunities, and classroom materials to educators whose students excel in the Awards, especially those from under-resourced communities. The fund was formed in recognition of Dr. Ernest B. Fleishman, a champion of educators, long-time member of the Alliance Board of Directors, and former senior executive at Scholastic Inc.
