Sojourner Ahebee

Interlochen Arts Academy, Interlochen, MI; Midwest Region

Sojourner concentrated her service project on the theme of memory and home. She led a series of poetry workshops at Culver Meadow Nursing Home in Traverse, MI, with residents suffering from Alzheimer’s Disease.

Michaela Coplen

Carlisle High School, Carlisle, PA; Northeast Region

Michaela partnered with Carlisle (PA) Barracks Community to lead two six-week workshop series for military children, teenagers, and their families. The workshops culminated in a community reading and publication.

Nathan Cummings

Mercer Island High School, Mercer Island, WA; West Region

Nathan partnered with the Seattle Children’s Hospital and Seattle’s Writers in the Schools (WITS) to co-lead poetry workshops for seriously ill children. Nathan also developed a collaborative writing project with patients during National Poetry Month.

Louis Lafair

St. Stephen’s High School, Austin, TX; Southwest Region

Louis focused his service project on educators and sharing his experience as a creative student. He presented with Texas Poet Laureate Jan Seale at the Texas Council of Teachers of English Language Arts’ annual conference and led two successful Google+ Hangouts On Air with the National Writing Project and the State Library and Archives Commission. Louis led a workshop with students on the path to be first-generation college graduates and created a website featuring tools to inspire creativity in the classroom at poetry2point0.com.

Aline Dolinh

Oakton High School, Oakton, VA; Southeast Region

Aline worked with English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) students at her school for a series of poetry workshops. She also visited local high schools in Virginia in partnership with poetry.NOW to lead after school poetry workshops.
