Meet the 2013 National Student Poets! Appointed as youth poetry ambassadors in September 2013, they served their term through August 2014.

During their Year of Service, these poets had the opportunity to attend the National Book Festival in Washington, D.C. and were formally recognized at the White House by First Lady Michelle Obama. The poets met some of their heroes at the Academy of American Poets Poets Forum and were recognized on stage at Carnegie Hall during the Scholastic Awards National Ceremony. With generous support from the Aspen Institute, the National Student Poets participated in a seminar with other youth poets on “Leadership, the Arts & Good Society” in conjunction with the Aspen Ideas Festival.

The poets embraced these once-in-a-lifetime opportunities and shared their love of poetry with young and old alike vis-á-vis their community service projects, National Poetry Month events, and other public appearances (read more here!).
