Meet the 2015 National Student Poets! Appointed as youth poetry ambassadors in October 2015, they served their term through August 2016.

During their Year of Service, these poets were formally recognized at the White House by First Lady Michelle Obama, who hosted a poetry reading for them with Jacqueline Woodson. The poets read original work for Hamilton star Daveed Diggs, met some of their heroes at the Academy of American Poets’ Poets Forum, and were recognized on stage at Carnegie Hall during the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards National Ceremony. With generous support from the Aspen Institute, the National Student Poets participated in a seminar with other youth poets in conjunction with the Aspen Ideas Festival.

The poets embraced these once-in-a-lifetime opportunities and shared their love of poetry with young and old alike vis-á-vis their community service projects, National Poetry Month events, and other public appearances.
