On behalf of everyone at the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards, I am pleased to share our 2020 National Ceremony with all of you. For the first time, we’re presenting this event virtually. The Ceremony was recorded before the wave of protests that has swept the nation in the past week, affecting all of us in profound ways. Though we could not have anticipated this moment when creating it, we believe this celebration is especially important right now.
As we grapple with this challenging and difficult time, we also recommit ourselves to the mission of the Awards: to recognize creative teens from around the country and all walks of life, and to encourage them to share their voices and visions with the world. This year’s National Medalists have made works of breathtaking power and beauty, revealing bold and original perspectives on the issues that matter to them.
The Art & Writing Awards, like their title sponsor, Scholastic Inc., are guided by an unwavering commitment to education as the foundation of creative expression in all fields of learning, and to the essential role that expression plays in sustaining respect for diversity, our democratic way of life, and cooperation and understanding among all people. With these core values in mind, I am proud to celebrate our 2020 National Medalists with you. They give us hope.
