Special Thanks

Thank you to all of those who helped to make the 2010 Scholastic Art & Writing Awards a historic event. Whether you served as judge, supported us with funds, or provided inspiration for our new roster of Scholastic Award winners, your participation helped make this a truly memorable year.

With your help, we hosted a full house at Carnegie Hall on June 9 with a record-breaking 600 students in attendance from across the nation. Teachers, parents, friends and donors applauded as these young visionaries took a bow, thankful for the recognition that the program provides.

Our successes are thanks to our partners, funders and friends who bear witness to the value of The Awards and continue to work with us to ensure that they remain the longest-running, most prestigious recognition program in the country and the largest source of scholarship funds for creative teens.

Learning from the Pros

Bryant ParkOn June 10, students and teachers participated in a day-long workshop series in New York where they were introduced to the city's cultural scene and rubbed elbows with professionals in the arts and literary worlds. More than 25 workshops were offered with highlights including talks by award-winning author and Studio 360's Kurt Andersen and creator of FOUND magazine Davy Rothbart; publishing tours at Rolling Stone, People, HarperCollins and Teen Vogue; a student reading at Bryant Park; and the first-ever student film screening at Tribeca Cinemas in collaboration with the world-famous Tribeca Film Festival.

Tribeca

Many thanks to the individuals and institutions who lent their time and efforts in support of our program. Also special thanks to Parsons The New School for Design who hosted several of the workshops and offered a hospitality area for parents.

Welcome! New York-Style

New York Welcomes National Award Winners

To celebrate the accomplishments of the 2010 National Award winners and to honor the impressive legacy of The Scholastic Awards, the Empire State Building was lit in gold on the evening of June 9. Despite the rainy night, Photography Portfolio Gold Medalist Max Mikulecky snapped this incredible pic.

In addition, Mayor Bloomberg officially proclaimed June 9, 2010, as The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards Day. The Mayor and the Empire State Building joined the Alliance staff and board in congratulating the nation's top teen artists and writers.
