Who gets recognized in The Awards?

Approximately 30,000 young artists and writers from across the United States receive recognition on the regional level of The Awards.  The most outstanding works of art and writing from each of the regional programs— Gold Keys—are forwarded to New York City to be assessed on a national level. Panels of professional jurors will review more than 8,000 works of art and 2,000 manuscripts to select the 1,200 national award recipients in 2008. Graduating seniors who submit a body of work in the Portfolio Categories—art, photography, general writing or nonfiction—compete for local and national scholarships bestowed by the Regional Affiliate programs, the Alliance for Young Artists & Writers and a network of arts institutes, colleges and universities.

If Your Work is Recognized on a Regional or National Level

On the regional level, award recipients are recognized with lapel pins and certificates. In areas where there is an affiliate program, award recipients are celebrated through local award ceremonies, exhibitions and readings. Regional recognition includes Gold and Silver Key Awards, and in some regions, Certificates of Merit. Affiliates also select American Visions & Voices Award Nominees as “Best of Show” for their region. Some affiliates award local scholarships and cash awards. Gold Keys are national qualifiers.

On the national level, award recipients are recognized with medals, certificates, and listing in the national catalog and on the Alliance web site.  A selection of national award-winning works are included in the national catalog and the annual anthology. Recognition levels include:

Teacher Awards

The teachers of students who receive national awards are also honored. Several cash awards are presented to teachers who mentor the Portfolio Gold Award recipients or submit an outstanding group of student artworks or manuscripts.
