Highlights
of 2005-2006:
Celebration
of Excellence
1,633 young artists and writers--representing
45 states, Washington, DC, and two U.S. schools abroad--received
national recognition in The Scholastic Art & Writing
Awards of 2006. These gifted emerging artists and writers
were invited to New York City in June of 2006 to network
with each other, interact with leading professionals in
creative fields, introduce their work to each other and
the nation, and be celebrated at a gala Celebration of
Excellence event at New York’s historic Carnegie
Hall. 595 national award recipients—a record number—attended
the Celebration Events in June in New York and the National
Scholastic Art Awards Exhibition of 2006 at the Corcoran
Gallery of Art in Washington, DC. The following activities
and events took place during June 2006 in celebration
of the nation’s most gifted emerging artists and
writers:
 Portfolio Gold Award
recipients at Carnegie Hall

All nationally recognized participants
received national Awards Medals. |

Twelve Portfolio Gold Awards—five in art,
two in photography, four in general writing, one
in non-fiction Writing of $10,000 each—were
presented. |

Nationally recognized recipients were able to meet
and learn from leading art and literary world professionals
through attending more than 75 workshops in New York
City on June 9, 2006. |

Portfolio Gold Award work and American Visions/Voices
works representing 79 regions throughout the country
were exhibited at the Alliance Gallery in Soho. |

The National Scholastic Art Awards Exhibition of
2006 opened at the Corcoran Gallery of Art on July
1st, and was on display through August 6, 2006. This
exhibition included 268 works of art that had received
Gold Awards, representing 31 states, Washington, DC,
and one U.S. school in Canada. |
