George Vlosich III—Alumnus, 1997

“Art can always be your passion—make time for it.”

The Inside Story
When I was nine months old, my dad put my hands in ink and I did my first painting, which we still have framed today.  My dad (also an artist) was my mentor, encourager and teacher.  He recognized I had a talent when I first started coloring. During my elementary school days, I won many contests including a scholarship to the Cleveland Museum of Art. I was also a national winner for the AAA poster contest.

Then, at age 10, I picked up my first Etch-a-Sketch® while on a vacation to Washington, DC. I sketched the Capitol Building. It was a new challenge for me.  I now have perfected this art form. I have met many famous people, (athletes and celebrities) after completing their portrait on the Etch-a-Sketch®.  My portfolio in high school received the Portfolio Gold Award from The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards of 1997.  Although I am famous for my Etch-a-Sketch® art, drawing and painting is my first love.

Current Status
I am currently working as an art director at Wyse Advertising. People still commission me to do Etch-a-Sketches® as well as paintings and drawings.

George was the keynote speaker at The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards of 2001 National Ceremony at the Kennedy Center, Washington, DC.
