Carolyn Forché, Alumnus 1967

The Inside Story
Last  year, when sending out letters of inquiry to potential jurors, staff members of the Alliance received an unexpected response from the world-renowned poet Carolyn Forché, author The Angel of History (1994), which received the Los Angeles Times Book Award; The Country Between Us (1982), which received the Poetry Society of America's Alice Fay di Castagnola Award, and Gathering the Tribes (1976). Carolyn responded:

"Thank you so much for honoring me with the invitation to judge The Scholastic Writing Awards. The invitation made me smile, because years ago I received an honor from The Scholastic Writing Awards and it made a difference to me. I began to believe in myself as a writer.".
