ASAP Awards

The Alliance for Young Artists & Writers presents the Alliance Summer Arts Program (ASAP) Awards, sponsored by the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation, for students in grades 7–11. Selected students will earn ASAP Awards and receive partial to full tuition scholarships to attend summer art and writing programs offered by colleges, camps, and nonprofit organizations. Gold Key award-winning teens will develop their creative skills by participating in art and writing intensives to learn new artistic and literary forms, improve their skills, and expand their portfolios.

About the ASAP Awards (In Spanish):

Eligibility

  • Students must be in grades 7–11.
  • Students must have earned a Gold Key (for either Art or Writing) in The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards of 2012.
  • ASAP Award recipients from 2012 may reapply
  • Students must come from a low-income household (under $40,000/year).

Young Scholars Program

The Alliance for Young Artists & Writers is pleased to partner with the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation to identify candidates for their Young Scholars Program. The Young Scholars Program is a remarkable opportunity for high-potential, low-income 7th grade students to receive substantial financial assistance and individualized educational opportunities and advising to enrich their development throughout high school. The Jack Kent Cooke Foundation works closely with scholars and their families to construct a tailored educational program that includes, but is not limited to, support for summer programs, distance learning courses, and art instruction. Approximately 50 seventh grade students are selected by the Foundation each year. To learn more about the Jack Kent Cooke Young Scholars Program, www.jkcf.org.

Eligibility for the Young Scholars Program

  • Students must be in the 7th grade.
  • Students must have earned a Gold Key (for either art or writing) in The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards of 2012.

What to Submit for ASAP Awards and Young Scholars Program

2012 Gold Key winners should log in to their accounts and apply online. 2011 ASAP Awardees must submit a paper application and an accompanying CD.

Applications are accepted beginning in February 2012 and include the following:

  • Application Form and Questions
  • A Process Portfolio
    1. Your Gold Key award-winning art/writing
    2. Another example of your best art/writing
    3. A work in progress–For art, include sketches, notes, and studies. For writing, include pre-writing activities, early drafts, and revisions.
  • A photo of the applicant
  • Proof of family income (eg. tax returns, paystub, w-2 form
  • Applications will be submitted in a 9" x 12" envelope to:
