Your application is not complete until you mail or drop-off your signed submission forms and payment (if applicable) according to the instructions below.
Submission Fee
The Alliance for Young Artists & Writers, the national nonprofit organization that presents The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards, requires standardized processing fees for each individual category and portfolio submission. Through a grant front the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, Miami Writes will be underwriting the processing fees for all students enrolled in a Miami-Dade public school (including charter schools) for up to 10 submissions per teacher.
For students enrolled in private schools, The Miami-Dade Region will underwrite a portion of the processing fees, reducing them to $3.00 for each individual category submission and $10.00 for each portfolio submission. These reduced fees also apply for works submitted by public school teachers in excess of ten submissions. Fees are payable by check or money order to MECA, Inc.
Fee Waiver
Any student who currently qualifes under the Federal School Lunch Act for the Free and Reduced Lunch program may have this fee waived. Reduced fees are also available to students for whom fees would be a barrier to participation. Please include a letter with your submission form(s) stating you qualify to waive the fee.
